1 After a borrower makes the first 48 consecutive on-time full payments of principal and interest
as initially scheduled, he or she can submit an application for cosigner release. An application for
cosigner release requires a credit check on and income verification documents from the underlying
borrower. Ardent will release the cosigner if the borrower would be individually approved for the
loan based on underwriting guidelines in place at the time of application for cosigner release.
To qualify for cosigner release, the account must remain current until the processing of the
application for release is complete.
Benefits of a Cosigner
Many college students, because they haven’t established credit yet, can save thousands of dollars by applying with a cosigner. The cosigner’s good credit history will likely positively affect the fees and the interest rate you receive on an Ardent Private Consolidation Loan.
Parents, grandparents, or legal guardians typically have more established credit histories that can help lower your interest rate, which usually results in a lower monthly repayment amount. It is important to know that if you apply with a cosigner, both you and your cosigner will be equally liable for repaying the loan.
We are temporarily not accepting applications for refinancing private student loans. Please check back with us soon as we plan to begin taking applications again in the near future.
